#DumpTrump Campaign Ceases Operations, Declares “Mission Accomplished” After Trump Shoots Himself In Foot and Professes Criminalizing Abortion.
If Donald Trump’s written follow-up to comments he made today during a MSNBC town hall forum in which he advanced the notion of criminalizing abortion and unequivocally stated “there needs to be some form of punishment for this very serious problem” hasn’t introduced a new dimension to the phrase “brand self-destruction”, any rational person, along with the political media pundits would conclude that any presidential aspiration Trump might have had will need to be re-calculated by virtue of his [hopefully] losing the vast majority of female voters in this country.
At the same time, corporate brand marketers are positing that Trump, in the course of a mere 30 seconds of television sound bites and memorialized in a written statement soon thereafter, has further degraded the Trump brand value proposition, which is the core component to the value of both his corporate and personal asset holdings as well as his overall revenue source. Yes, he owns a handful of flagship real estate properties that, after mortgages and other loans held against those properties could be worth a few billion dollars (which isn’t just chopped liver), but his primary income is courtesy of royalty deals, including revenue from hotel and other real-estate properties that leverage the Trump name.
On the heels of The Donald’s clearly-articulated position that we should turn the clock back more than 40 years such that all abortion providers should be criminally prosecuted, a view he later reinforced via his attempted walk-back statement made after media pundits pounced when he stated on MSNBC that “women should be criminally-prosecuted for undertaking an abortion.”
Per clip above, the sound bytes clearly suggest that’s exactly what he first implied–even if Trump later invoked the “Greenspan Doctrine” in defense of of his foot-in-mouth disease, The Donald has all-together undermined any last chance he could get more women fans by taking a stand against the popular pro-choice notion that women, the only gender that can produce a fetus, should have the right to choose how to manage their own plumbing systems. It’s a contentious topic for sure, but modern day culture and US Supreme Court legal doctrine favor the majority, pro-choice view, notwithstanding the fact that individual states continue to dicker over the circumstances in which a woman should have a right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
For a Self-Proclaimed “Expert Marketer”, Trump Completely Over-Looks Simple Proven Facts, aka Narcissism 201.
A woman’s right to choose was a 20th century battle that sought to overturn 19th century state-based doctrine and a battle between pro-choice and pro-life camps that lasted for years until the debate seemingly culminated in favor of pro-choice advocates in the US Supreme Court Decision Roe v. Wade. It was that 1973 court decision that provided a foundation for contemporary thinking insofar as abortion. The take-away from that ruling was that the law of the land should be that going forward, a woman should have the right to choose.
That said, states continue to debate, litigate and appeal court decisions as to the interpretation of Roe v Wade, but in his latest bloviator-esque outburst, Donald Trump has yet again overlooked not just legal doctrine, but basic voter profile statistics, including the following facts:
(i) the most recent studies show that 54% of women voters are pro-choice , including 95% of the last 10 years’ contestants in the Trump-owned Miss Universe Pageant.
(ii) Donald, did you know that 57% of guests occupying Trump-branded hotels are women? And that 95 of them are registered voters?
(ii) 70% of registered voters (legal citizens) employed by the Trump Organization are women.
(iii) 60% of apartment owners in Trump-branded luxury condominiums are women and 80% of those apartments are occupied or co-occupied by at least one adult woman.
(iv) Oh, let’s not forget that more than 55% of voters in the 2012 presidential election were women. It is expected that number will increase by at least 10% in the 2016 election contest, 80% of whom are expected to vote against Trump. Including the women who really didn’t want to vote for HRC.
So, for someone who has repeatedly exclaimed that he will be “the best President for women that the country has ever had..” this is not surprisingly the milestone moment for leaders of the #DumpTrump campaign to finally call it quits; today leaders of Toilet Paper-inspired movement [pun intended] officially declared “Mission Accomplished”—thanks to Trump finally shooting himself in the foot that has quintessentially been stuck in his mouth during the past too many months.
Throughout the past decade the GOP brand has experienced its own self-evisceration, but Trump’s latest proclamation is one that hard-core conservatives will be forced to advance, just because they are trend-followers. And that alone will likely cause many of the upwards of 45% of women to throw up their Republican hands and abandon the grand old party. This means that GOP National Party will need to engage a battery of brand management professionals. Boo-Yah.
